Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa
The family-friendly half of the Hyatt twin resorts on Playa Esmeralda
About Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa
Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa is the family side of the Hyatt Inclusive Collection's development on Playa Esmeralda. It soft-opened in September 2025, a few weeks after its adults-only sister Secrets Playa Esmeralda, and the two were formally inaugurated together by President Luis Abinader.
The resort has 500 suites, three swimming pools, an on-site water park and kids' programming, which is what most families are paying for. It follows the Dreams Unlimited-Fun all-inclusive format: multiple restaurants and bars, entertainment, a spa and clubs for children and teens.
One of the selling points is the shared layout. Dreams and Secrets are connected by a village-style public square, and guests can use facilities at both resorts. For families, that adds restaurant choice; for parents traveling with grandparents or friends without kids, it lets a mixed group split across the two properties and still eat together.
The beach is the long, quiet sweep of Playa Esmeralda. Water is calm on many days but it is open bay water without a reef, so keep an eye on young swimmers and follow the resort's flags. Sargassum is much less of an issue than in Punta Cana because the coast faces north into Samaná Bay.
Trade-offs: the transfer from Punta Cana airport is about 1.5 hours, which matters with tired kids, and like all Costa Esmeralda resorts there is nothing to walk to outside. As a resort that only opened in 2025, it is worth checking recent reviews before booking.
Family-friendly trips nearby include Montaña Redonda, where the 4x4 ride up and the swings are a hit with older kids, and the gentle Laguna Limón kayak tour.
Best for: families, multigenerational groups and friends who want a new resort away from the Punta Cana crowds. Not for: couples looking for a quiet, child-free stay (book Secrets instead) or travelers who want a short transfer.
