Catalonia Royal La Romana

Catalonia Royal La Romana is the adults-only resort of the Spanish chain Catalonia Hotels, set on Playa Dominicus in the resort strip south-east of Bayahíbe. It shares the beachfront with its larger family sister, Catalonia Bayahibe (formerly Catalonia Gran Dominicus), but runs as a separate, quieter property for adults only. Tour-operator listings say Royal guests can also use the restaurants and facilities of Catalonia Bayahibe.

The resort is smaller and more relaxed than the big family all-inclusives in the area. Dining centers on a few restaurants, including Thalassa, La Isla and Tosacana, according to current booking listings, alongside bars and a pool area. Expect a classic Spanish-chain all-inclusive: good value, straightforward food, attentive service, and evening entertainment that is lower-key than in family resorts. Booking sites describe it as five-star, though rooms are more traditional than luxurious.

One feature stands out: there is a dive center on site, which makes it a natural choice for divers. The beach is a strength: soft pale sand, palms, and the calm, clear water that Dominicus is known for. Some sections are roped off for boat traffic. Sargassum is less common than on the Punta Cana coast, though it can arrive in heavy years.

Practical notes: La Romana International Airport is about 25 minutes away and Punta Cana International about an hour or a little more. Bayahíbe village is around five minutes by taxi for dinners out, such as at Restaurante Típico La Bahía.

Best for: couples and adult friends on a moderate budget, divers, and travelers who prefer a calmer resort without children. Not for: families (the sister Catalonia Bayahibe takes kids), travelers who want the newest rooms, or anyone looking for nightlife.
