Casa de Campo Resort & Villas
A 7,000-acre resort with three Pete Dye courses, a marina, villas and its own beach club
About Casa de Campo Resort & Villas
Casa de Campo Resort & Villas is the most famous resort on the south-east coast and one of the best-known in the Caribbean. Developed in the 1970s on land that belonged to the Central Romana sugar company, it covers about 7,000 acres east of La Romana and works more like a private town than a hotel: a hotel with guest rooms, hundreds of private villas for rent, three Pete Dye golf courses, a large marina, polo and equestrian facilities, a shooting center, tennis, and the replica Mediterranean village of Altos de Chavón.
The golf is the headline. Teeth of the Dog runs right along the Caribbean and regularly ranks among the best courses in the region; Dye Fore sits on cliffs above the Chavón River, and The Links plays inland. The resort's own golf page says the courses are for resort guests only, and published 2026 green fees run to several hundred dollars per round plus 18% tax.
The beach is Minitas Beach, a calm, jetty-protected cove with a beach club, restaurant and water sports. It is pleasant and very family-friendly, but it is one beach, not a long natural strand; for that you would go to Playa Dominicus or take a boat to Isla Catalina.
Rooms and villas are offered with several meal plans, including all-inclusive options, and guests get around by golf cart, which is effectively essential. Dining is spread across the hotel, Minitas, the marina (including La Casita, a long-running seafood restaurant) and Altos de Chavón. Villa rentals usually come with staff such as a housekeeper or butler, and suit families and groups.
Who it is for: golfers, families and multi-generational groups renting villas, wedding parties, and travelers who want space, privacy and activities beyond a pool and buffet. Who it is not for: budget travelers, people who want nightlife, or anyone wanting a classic all-inclusive on a long beach.
Getting there could not be easier: La Romana International Airport (LRM) is right next to the property, a few minutes by car. Punta Cana and Santo Domingo airports are both about 1.5 hours away. Prices vary widely by room, villa and season, and are among the highest in the country, so compare meal plans carefully. See our La Romana area guide for more on the surroundings.
